Frank was not expecting anyone. He would get the occasional visitor but it was always planned, always announced. No one would just stop by to see him. If a person was coming from the outside, this was a secure building and would have to be buzzed in to gain entrance. Even neighbors would call first before coming by. With trepidation, he moved towards the door.

In the Beginning
Frank looked out the window of his apartment. Several floors below him, he could see the rain spattered street. The cobblestones seemed to shine like jewels under the hooves of the passing horses as they pulled their carriages to their various destinations. Frank imagined himself in one of those carriages, off to a wonderful destination to have some fantastic adventure. But here he was, stuck in his apartment, watching out the window. Just then, there was a knock at the door.
